As the 2016-17 school year winds down, it is time to reflect on the year.  Many exciting things have happened this year. I want to wish everyone a happy and safe summer.  For the fifth graders, I want to wish you all a very successful and exciting sixth grade.  We will miss you all, but each one of you is ready to move on.  For the rest of the school, Broadus Wood will be waiting for your return in August.

Wow.  This year has moved quickly.  We have roughly 30 days left in this school year.  Now it is all about staying focused and finishing this year strong.

BOBCAT REPUBLIC - Our Bobcat Republic (student government) students delivered the items that was collected during the Creating Purrs and Wags event to the CASPCA animal shelter on Wednesday, April 26.  Thank you Broadus Wood Community for your support of this event.  Pictures of the students field trip is located on the Bobcat Republic page of this blog.  Great job Bobcat Republic students.  Your representation of Broadus Wood made us all proud.

FIFTH GRADE PARENTS - The fifth grade students have been visited by the Jouett representatives and they have taken a field trip to Jouett Middle School.  They are now working on learning to open combination locks and how middle school is going to be different than elementary school.  Now, they just have to stay focused and finish the year strong.

I hope you finish April on a happy note and have a great May.

Welcome to Spring.  Lots of things are blooming at Broadus Wood.

If you haven't noticed, my schedule is really different than it was last year.  I work three days a week as Broadus Woods' school counselor (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).  I work for Broadus Woods' After-school program 5 days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday).

The Bobcat Republic is collecting items for the Animal Shelter.  Please visit the Bobcat Republic page to see what items we are collecting.

I am visiting your child's classroom twice a month.  If you are wondering when I visit your child's class, please visit the When I Am In Your Child's Classroom page on this blog.

Fifth grade parents, the updated calendar for middle school transition is on The Middle School Transition  page on this blog.

Check out the Friendship Corner information on The Character and Anti-Bullying Information page on this blog.

August 23,2016

Welcome back Bobcats.  I hope you are looking forward to a fantastic and successful school year.  I am so looking forward to working with you this year.

My schedule has changed for this year.  I will be at Broadus Wood only in the mornings between 8:30 and 12:00.  Because of this, I will be unable to do student lunches.  Luckily, everything else seems to be the same.

If you need to get in touch with me, please do not hesitate.  My email address is vmcclanahan@k12albemarle.org.  My phone number is 434-973-3865.

Let's have a great year together.

As this school year begins to wind down to summer, there are still a lot of important things that are happening at school.  Remember, it is really important to help your child stay focused in the classroom until the end of school.

I will be ending my classroom visits at the end of April.  I really enjoyed working with your children this year.  It has been a real joy teaching and interacting with each child.

If you would like to know what was is happening in the guidance department, please visit my blog  (http://counselormac.blogspot.com or go to the Broadus Wood website, on the left side, click on school counseling, and click on Ms. Mac’s blog).

Back in November The Bobcat Republic coordinated the school making postcards and handmade cards for our military service personnel.  This is an email that Broadus Wood received from some of the Marines that received the school's postcards.  Way to go Bobcats!!

Good morning,

I wanted to say thank you for your students holiday letters.  It's
heartwarming and inspiring to know that there are schools that still value
patriotism and selflessness.
Please let the children who wrote that all Marines here in Italy are
thankful and appreciative of all their notes and cards.
Enclosed is a picture of the Marines here in Italy.
Once again, Thank you and God bless.
